Adobe launches acrobat.com
Adobe has recently launched Acrobat.com - a collection of some online collaboration services that will allow you to upload files to share with others, convert files to PDF online, Buzzwords for creating and reviewing documents together and Adobe ConnectNow for holding full-fledged online web conferences with up to three people.
At the moment it’s brand new and (same as it’s online Photoshop Express app cousin) still in Beta stage. The move of some Adobe apps to online services like these is a sign that sofware as a service is being embraced by the bigger companies as well.
Acrobat.com consists of:
- Adobe Buzzword: write texts in online collaboration
- Adobe ConnectNow: let’s you connect up to three people in an online meeting with screen sharing, desktop video, voice conferencing, chat and white-boarding.
- Create PDFs from your document (up to 5 free)
- Share: share files on your free 5 Gb hosting space (note: not all file types can be uploaded - mp3 for instance is not allowed)

A nice addition is the fact that there is a free companion AIR app that you can download and which makes it easier to just drag and drop files to your shared area.
For the Flex adapts out there: both the online and the offline app seem to be made using Flex -and who knows- maybe even styled using the new ‘thermo’ app.
Also worth mentioning is that Adobe Acrobat version 9 (that was released at the same time) allows the inclusion of Flash files inside of PDFs.
So is Acrobat.com useful?
